The ethics of the samurai and the derivations of their martial culture. In this session we will go over one of the primary influences of the samurai culture on Japanese society: their ethical stances. |

Culture, the individual, and society, part II: suicide and other societal problems. Today we will continue looking at the the position of the individual in relation to society. Suicide is a central concept in samurai culture; we will consider how this element may be influencing Japanese society today, as well as other individual-society conflict issues. |
